Gazelle NL C7
Gazelle NL C7
The Gazelle NL is a super comfortable, super heavy duty Dutch style cruiser. It was designed as an eBike "pickup truck" - with it's powerful Bosch motor and big battery, it is equally capable to serve as a daily commuter.
- Smooth riding despite having no suspension fork, even over rough stuff because of the balloon tires, big sprung saddle,
- Heavy Cargo Duty/Child Carrier capacity of up to 275 lbs -
- City Tough with puncture resistant tires and thoroughly tested against UV and salt water exposure
- Easy entry Low Step sizes 46cm, 49cm, and 54cm
- Best in Class Bosch Active Drive 20mph .
- Commute ready - front and rear lights, fenders, bell, an integrated frame lock, and a rear rack for panniers. It even has a guard on the rear wheel for wearing a long coat or dress.
- No greasy chain mess - internal gears 7-speed Shimano and a fully enclosed chain guard to keep pant legs clean.
- Low maintenance, powerful brakes - hydraulic rim brakes for reassuring stopping power, wet or dry.
- Good Range 25-80 mile, 482 watt hour battery
Most eBikes consider cargo capacity as an afterthought - the NL is designed to take both the weight and a regular beating on tough streets. The beefy oversized tubing on the front and rear racks means business when it comes to car-replacing hauling, and is compatible with the Yepp Next Child Carrier.
Special features like an oversized double-leg kickstand let you park with kids or groceries without worrying about tipovers, and a unique parking locking mechanism to keep the handlebars from flopping over when the front is loaded.
The NL (for Netherlands) is definitively Dutch - upright with swept back handlebars, fully commute ready with fenders, lights, rack, bell, integrated frame lock, a enclosed chain guard, along with a signature shield so you can wear a long (rain) coat or skirt if you want.
You will see hydraulic rim brakes on lots of Euro eBIkes because they are the lowest maintenance (long service interval) while still giving great stopping power, albeit less than discs. Hydraulic brakes (for both disc and rim) not only greatly increase the brakes squeezing power - they also require less frequent adjustments because the lever doesn't need to be pressed as far to close hydraulic brakes.
Usually overlooked for its sexier siblings in the Performance line, Bosch's Active line is the bulletproof mainstay of most high quality, modern city eBikes. Especially suited for upright city cruisers, It gives just the right amount of assistance for daily commuting and relaxed tours, with the best battery range in the Bosch line. Bosch Active line is changing for 2018 but will no doubt continue to have the best in class reliability for everyday and leisure riding.
Internally geared hubs are standard on Euro commuters - they are popular with less experienced cyclists because internal gears can shift over the entire range at rest (useful if you forget to downshift after coming to a stop) without causing problems, they tend to be quieter, cleaner and less maintenance than derailleur gears. Flat changes are more complicated, but overall maintenance is needed less frequently, and if used with a chain guard can keep your trousers from getting greasy.
Daily commuting on an eBike will put you ahead of the pack every time, but it pays to be prepared. Fenders keep the spray off your face, back and feet. A rear carrier allows you to use bags. Lights that are integrated with your eBikes battery. A chainguard keeps your chain & trousers clean. Integrated frame locks for quickie stops. And a nice bell to politely tell people to get out of your way!
